Our Christmas

Hello everyone out there!! Did you all have a lovely Christmas? I havent done much blog reading let alone any posting, it all seems to have been non stop here for a couple of weeks. My week off was very productive, I got lots of jobs done around our house and at my mum's and managed to fit in some visiting and some last minute christmas shopping( although not too much), I have definitely not spent as much as last year. Despite the fact we had some gorgeous presents bought I am most happy that we got to spend time with our loved ones this year. Last sunday about 40 of my youngest son M and his wife L's family all got together for an early Christmas meal, a final Christmas together before their emigration in May. It was really lovely meeting up, there were so many of us the pub found a large room that we could have all to ourselves, which the children loved because it meant they could run around to their hearts content.
Tony and I both worked Christmas eve, me only the morning session, thank goodness, because I had started  with a horrible cold which sort of put paid to some of our plans. We intended walking up to midnight mass in the village on Christmas eve but ended up having to go to bed early instead feeling terrible! Anyway, I am pleased to report I'm back to fighting fitness and it didn't spoil our celebrations too much. I thought I'd show some photos to give you all a taste of our Christmas.

Marmalade caught a robin.....only a felt one but don't you think she's clever picking off the only bird ornament on the tree?

Our fireplace looks lovely with lots of candles lit up but I can't have too many because of the various hanging things!

Our tree before............

Drooping and past its best after a couple of weeks !

The little fairy was the last figure I managed to get finished....actually I didn't properly finish her at all, she has wings but no wand or tiara because granddaughter E claimed her and took her home!
Christmas lunch was spent with my eldest son, C, partner S and granddaughter O plus S's sister D and their dad.We all booked in to a lovely pub at Newmillerdam which was especially nice for me since I had no cooking to do (I don't mind the cooking so much, its the timing I have trouble with!) and there was no washing up for any of us.
It's been a lovely relaxing few days but back to work tomorrow. We are planning a trip to the cinema for our New Year's Eve after tea and then I would hazard a guess that we will both be too tired to see in the New Year. Instead we will raise a glass to the coming year and probably be fast asleep by the time midnight strikes!
How do you intend to spend your New Year's eve?

  3. I would happily go to bed and wake up in the next year. Trouble is, since 2000 and the fact that every marketing image of the millenium was accompanied by fireworks, it is like armageddon at midnight so trying to sleep is pointless.
Glad you are feeling better and you had a relaxing time. Happy new year to you Anne! x

  4. Marmalade should be proud of herself!
Tomorrow will be a Mexican meal in the evening, then relax before bed. I can't stay up till midnight, even if I held my eyelids open with matchsticks!
Happy New Year to you and yours!

  5. I'm glad you're on the mend. Some years we see in the new year, others we go to bed and sleep through it.

  6. Hello Anne ... Snap! I succumbed to the dreaded lurgy on Christmas Eve too ... not much fun was it? Lovely pics, Marmalade looks very pleased, even though I can't see all his face, like the cat that got the cream! Have a lovely New Year and thanks for your kind comments over at Thriftwood earlier.

  9. Happy New Year to you and your family. I don't expect to see the New Year in here either. We generally go out for an early meal, then veg in front of the tv.

  10. How lovely for everyone to get together for a real family Christmas. We are off to a New Years Eve party - not really my thing as I like to be tucked up in bed by 10 - not sure I will last the course.

  11. Probably the same as you. We try to stay up, watching jools holland but as we are on our own this year, might go to bed. Mind you, around here everyone lets of fireworks and the church bells ring so no point in going to bed too early.

  12. It will be early to bed around our place as well. Need to be ready to cook up a big meal for the whole family New Years day. How funny your kitty found a bird on the tree!
